From Square to Full: New Moon Writing Plan Continued

It’s been two weeks since the new moon, solar eclipse broke through, although you wouldn’t be able to tell it’s been that recent when reading the other news that’s taken place since then.

The eclipse – already a glimpse of some distance past – has been plagued with more urgent news on #HurricaneHarvey, the president’s pardon, North Korea and whatever else is hitting the breaking news waves as you read this.

Things move fast. Your writing, however, shouldn’t be at that pace.

And that’s what this new moon planning is about. To encourage you to process the things you’re writing, edit it several times, research and do more research and really sit with your words and thinking.

The moon will be full in Pisces on Wednesday and moving from the square, where it asks that you push through the tension of your writing, and switch up how you define or write about certain things. Even the actual way you write could change with this new moon writing plan (so not just the content).

“The square is the aspect of action based on tension. It is action born from frustration… pushes us into corners that we can’t avoid. We rarely want to go there so we are picked up by the scruff of the neck and placed there. We scream, kick, maybe even swear, and after the outbursts we realize that the only way out is to do something that we may never have tried before.”

But that’s the point of the waxing moon – which is when the moon is going from new to full in the lunar cycle – and as writers, we should be picking up those pieces of ourselves or our stories to write what we need to write.

And with Mercury on the verge of going direct… thinking and communicating will be a lot sharper.

The energy of the skies are pretty much asking now that we take in all the tools we have at our disposal, the research and goals and ideas, and strengthen the foundation of your writing. The rest, unfortunately, has to go. At least for this cycle.

So whatever you’ve been working on, take the tension that usually forms with the square going on between the sun and moon, and do brief edits, review your research, what dialogues are you using in your stories and how do they work. And also note the copy and texts you’re not using, and why you’re choosing not to include those parts into your story. Those could become writing texts and stories of their own.

The square landed in the Sagittarius, which rules things like churches, race horses, foreign countries, praying, colleges and higher learning institutions. philosophy, Toledo (Ohio), Spain… and this is just a brief of it to get your started. The point is that this energy is fire and very much about seeking higher truths and expanding our souls.

So how are you practicing this with your writing… how are you combining the tensions that you feel about the world and connecting your writing to it, and how can you use the Sagittarius energy to make sure it’s serving that transcending purpose not just for you – but your readers as well.

Next Up: Full moon in Pisces… the sign known as the dreamer with its boundless energy. It’s time to get lost in your writing. Put on some music, visit a local museum that could inspire some more of your work and prepare to dig in deep.
