Meditation Wednesday is a new, monthly series, where we’ll write a meditation piece for you to practice on your own. It will focus on writing, creating and imagining whatever theme we’re tackling for the month using astrology, of course.
We all know things get darker around this time of the year. It’s when we feel, and even celebrate, the shift from light to dark – Halloween, Día de Los Muertos and daylight saving time ends (albeit in November).
It’s typical of course, as astrologers know, with the sun going from airy Libra to the dark waters Scorpio, to get more into our feelings with the shift, too. The sign Venus, ruler of Libra, will be going retrograde in a few days, a change that’s back-to-back with Pluto (Scorpio’s semi-ruler) going direct in Capricorn. Then there’s Mercury, the ruler of communication and writing and getting our messages across, also jumping into Scorpio next week.

So with all the Scorpio changes in the air, there is an opportunity for writers to creatively pierce through the challenging parts of your writing.
This month, we dare you to pause, create a space for silence and darkness. Understand what it means, through writing, to be really in the dark. Fun activity will be to blindfold yourself – with your eyes still open underneath – legs crossed on the floor. Sit in that position for 15 to 20 minutes, the goal being to familiarize ourselves with darkness and see the dark for what it was.

The blindfold activity, along with the following script, is what we recommended for this month’s meditation. The sun will be in Scorpio at the end of the month, prompting us to hibernate and pause in a sense.
I pause. Pause.
Pause, slowly pause.
I will take longer,
Intentional breaths.
With each breath, I will go deeper,
I will go deeper
Deeper to the light that is me.
Lightness within the darkness is what I seek.
To see beyond what I see
To feel beyond what I feel
To expand beyond the layers of what is
Solid and strong and here
And light.
I go deeper into that darkness
To see beyond what I see
To feel beyond what I feel
To expand and deepen
Expand and deepen
Expand and deepen
You can continue reciting that last line until it becomes a mantra. We suggest you record yourself reading this meditation. Read it three times – at least – into the recording and play it out whenever you need to remind yourself of your passions, your inner workings and thinking.
